FDD ELECTRONIC DISCLOSURE
FDDPlus.com electronic file delivery, tracking, and storage service. Since 2001 it has catered to the legal needs of the franchise industry.
In 2001 the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a Franchise Staff Opinion approving FDDPlus (then titled Franchise.com electronic delivery system). Franchise.com was sold by the owner of FDDPlus in 2007. Its seller retained the ownership of FDDPlus.
A key feature of the system is that the sender receives a receipt when the file is actually “opened” in addition to when it is “received”. This provides evidence that the recipient has viewed the file and has taken action. With a typical email program when a sender sends an email with a file attachment and requests notification when the recipient “opens” the email, if there is an attachment there is no way to know if the attachment was opened. The sender only learns that the email itself was opened. Similarly with express mail services the sender does not learn that the envelop has been opened.
Each exact file version sent through the system is archived for the sender and recipeint viewing and can not be deleted from the system. FDDPlus clients include many of the largest franchise systems.
Files delivered through the sytem typically range in size from 100 - 400 pages, but can be smaller or larger. The same file, such as when redisclosing, can be sent to thousands of people or companies at one time, or to one person or company at one time.
Senders can setup other parties to also be notified of delivery and file opening. Senders and Recipients can add contact information on all parties involved in a transaction, such as for inclusion in the FDD Item 23 Reciept.
FDDPlus allows franchisors to save staff time and money, to go green, and to expedite their franchise sales process . Using FDDPlus it takes less than a minute for the sender to send a file, and for the system to send back a receipt to the sender that the recipient has received, and then actually “opened” the file.
